    A storm system skimming south of the hard hit areas of the Midwest left its mark with some light snow overnight across southern Illinois. A sharp cold front moved through mid-evening knocking temperatures from the upper 40s/low 50s to the mid 20s in 3 hours and bringing along with the snow a gusty northerly wind. Wind gusts in the region peaked in the 30s contributing to wind chills near zero at times during the late evening hours. This cold will be stick around through Thursday night before weekend temperatures make a quick bounce to near 60 by late in the weekend.The light powdery snow combined with the winds creating low visibilities at times with sideways snow blowing across the sky and waves of powder blowing across parking lots. Highest reports of up to an inch were reported with this quick hitter.     A fun video that shows you how to make your own chewing tobacco (this is for chew, NOT dip) at home, with a simple recipe, few ingredients and in very little time. with me as your teacher, Mississippi Feller! If you need any help, have new ideas, etc, leave me a comment, but check the FAQ section on the description below, your answer might be already there. INGREDIENTS: Pipe tobacco, molasses, apple juice and salt.And here’s the whole process in 10 easy steps:1. Pour about two fingers apple juice onto a frying pan and bring it to a boil.2. Let it evaporate until there’s just a little bit covering the bottom of the pan.3. Pour more apple juice and repeat the process 4 or 5 times.4. After doing that, make sure the last one leaves you with a thick, dark gold apple juice concentrate, but not thick as syrup.5. Take it off the heat, and quickly add a couple of spoons of molasses. Stir it well.6. Now add plenty of salt and mix it very well.7. While it’s all still pretty hot, carefully add the tobacco, a chunk at the time. Mix it all up well with your spoon, add more if necessary.8. Place the chew, on a plate and let it cool off in a well-ventilated place.9. Take what you are gonna use and put in a pouch, store the rest in your refrigerator in a well-sealed container.10. COMMENCE CHEWING!!!That’s it. It’s pretty simple and hard to screw this recipe up, really! But if you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask me. Enjoy your chewing tobacky!FAQ:1. Can I use a different juice other than apple juice? You could try and see where it goes. Most good recipes come out when people experiment and try unusual things. But bear in mind that this is NOT an apple juice flavored chew recipe. Apple juice is a standard part of most chewing tobacco recipes. To have an apple juice flavored chew, you would have to add more juice than usual, or maybe try an apple culinary essence. But if you want to try to add your juice flavor, you could add some to the apple juice, or again, try the culinary essence they use on baking, they are very strong, so just a wee bit will go a long way.2. What kind of tobacco should I use? Can I use cigarette tobacco? Or my own homegrown tobacco? As mentioned in the video, this recipe uses pipe tobacco. The greener and moister, the better. Your homegrown tobacco is even better, as long as it is properly cured. But no, you can’t use cigarette tobacco.3. Can I use this recipe to make dip? No, this recipe is for chewing tobacco. The making of dip uses a complete different process that is closer to Swedish snus (in fact, American dip came from snus, a tradition obviously noticed by Scandinavian names such as Copenhagen and Skoal). In other words, dip is not just shredded chewing tobacco, but a whole ‘nother story. I have no dip recipes at the moment, but I am working on it. If I find out, you’ll find out.4. Can I add whiskey? Hell yeah. At the end, when it’s cooled off, so that the alcohol doesn’t evaporate.5. Can I turn this into plug tobacco? Yes, it involves using the oven or sun drying. I will upload a video showing the process in the future.6. With Red Man and other great chews being sold at the store just down the road a piece, why would anybody need this recipe? Well, not everyone has access to stores that sell chew, even in America, let alone overseas. There’s people that also grow their own tobacco, and if they wanna turn it into chew, this recipe helps. While you can’t beat the convenience of buying chew at the store, if you can’t, but still have access to raw cured or pipe tobacco, this recipe is useful. Some people also like to make their own stuff and are adventurous, so this helps them. If you can buy it at the store, buy, chew and be happy. Oh, please note that chewing tobacco can be purchased from online stores even if you live overseas – I do it all the time here in Scotland through the Northerner snus store. I usually order big bags of Stoker’s chew for the value. Sometimes I run out of chew while waiting because it takes a while, so this recipe has helped me as well, many times, and still does.7. Where are you from? The first two letters of my username stand for Mississippi, my beloved state. I was partially raised in south Louisiana and West Virginia as well, but have been everywhere in between, bit of a ramblin’ man. Right now, I live in Scotland.8. Do you chew or dip yourself? Yes, I chew, dip and I also use Swedish snus, the last one being my main thing these days. My favorite brands, respectively, are: Red Man GB, Skoal WG and Thunder ES Los. I also like Cope, Grizzly and Red Man snuff. When I can’t afford them, I use Stoker’s chew and dip, and I’m happy with it. I don’t do fine cut, everything I dip is long cut.     Baked avocado egg rolls are the healthy appetizer you need in your life.Recipe for avocado egg rolls: 1/2 lime, juiced 1 1/2 ripe avocados, diced 2 tablespoons red onions, diced 1 tablespoon sun-dried tomatoes, diced 1 large garlic clove, minced 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon cilantro, chopped 1 egg 4 sheets frozen phyllo dough, thawed Olive oil sprayFor the cashew dipping sauce: 1/4 cup raw cashews 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons water, divided 2 tablespoons low sugar rice wine vinegar 1/2 lime, juiced 1 teaspoon olive oil 2 tablespoons cilantro leaves Pinch of salt 1″ ginger, peeled and gratedTo make avocado egg rolls: Add lime juice to a medium sized bowl. Add diced avocado and stir gently until avocado is covered in lime juice to prevent from browning. Add in red onion, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, salt, and cilantro to the bowl and stir until well combined. Set aside.Add egg to a small bowl and whisk until scrambled. Set aside.On a dry, clean surface, set out 4 sheets of room temperature phyllo dough and cut into quarters. Leave 1 set of phyllo dough in the center of your cutting board. Add approximately 1/3 of the avocado mixture to the dough a little right of the center. Wrap the dough like you would an egg roll and use the egg wash with a brush to seal the dough together. Keep going until you have a tightly wrapped log. Use the egg wash to fold the open ends of the egg roll together, like you’re wrapping a package. Fold two sides in and then fold the top and bottom triangles down. Repeat two more times with the remaining avocado mixture.Heat a nonstick skillet to medium heat and spray each egg roll all over with olive oil spray. Add egg rolls to pan and cool for 3 minutes on all 4 sides until golden brown. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.To make cashew dipping sauce: Add cashews to 1/4 cup of water and set aside to hydrate for at least 30 minutes.Once soaked, strain cashews and add to a food processor. Add rice wine vinegar, 2 tablespoons of water, lime juice, olive oil, cilantro, salt, and ginger. Note: Add the noodles and let them cook till ‘bite like’– when pressed between the thumbnail and the forefinger, the cut should be felt through (that is, it should offer some resistance). If over done, the nail will hardly feel the texture and if under done, you will need to apply some pressure and the inside will be whiter.Drain the water and immediately put the noodles under running cold water, to stop further cooking, and continue till cool.Rub the remainder of the 1 tbsp of oil into the noodles and leave in a colander to drain further. This is best done ahead of time.Heat the 6 tbsp oil and stir-fry the onions and the garlic over high heat, till a light brown.Add the chicken and salt and turn around a few times.Add the soya sauce, celery, vinegar and chilli sauce and mix well.Last of all, add the noodles, mix well and serve hot.
